A friend just sent me word of this exciting open casting call. I was seriously considering going until I got to the part where you need to be “thin, athletic and fit.” Sadly, this disqualifies me…and — if I may be so bold — a good number of fellow Star Trek fans.

  1. I like the request for the “NON-SMILING” headshot.

there will be NO SMILING in Starfleet!

  2. Well, it is a JJ Abrams film. If there’s one thing I learned from Felicity or Alias, it’s how to never look happy.

  3. Steve

It’s an interesting commentary that, while the medical community is waking up to the fact that being a little bit ‘fat’ probably is healthy (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/07/health/07fat.html?_r=3&oref=slogin&adxnnlx=1194438040-WQ8KzBIizxq%20luYBavokrw&pagewanted=print&oref=slogin), the tv and film franchise that built enormous (!) success on toleration and accepting diversity has, essentially, announced a “no fat chicks” casting policy. I don’t want to sound paranoid… but, perhaps Simon Pegg should be careful not to look too much like Scotty, or he might find himself re-cast.
