Wintermen

There’s no real reason for this post other than the fact that Winter Men is awesome, and the finale is finally on stands after more than two years of waiting, and really no expectation that it would ever come out at all.

I bought issue 1 right when I was getting back into comics, thanks to a raving e-mail from Warren Ellis’ Bad Signal list. I faithfully bought the single issues, but somehow missed issue 4; just a month ago, I magically found it for 33 cents in a clearance bin. I dug them all out of the short boxes in my closet just this weekend. They sit pregnant with possibility, awaiting the arrival of my copy of the Wintermen Winter Special from my mail order service. I will read them all in one delirious sitting, a glutton for good comics.

I don’t have much else to say; this is essentially a pile-on post, designed to continue giving Winter Men all the momentum it deserves at the end of its five-year journey to the page. You’d be wise to track down the back issues, and you’d be a discerning and attractive human being if you decided to buy the Winter Men Winter Special (preview at the link; in stores NOW), doubly so if you buy the special TODAY at your local comics emporium without having even purchased the preceding issues.

“Did you read this whole story?” the clerk will ask.

“Naw,” you’ll reply, maybe lowering your shades, David Caruso style. “I heard it was cool. I’m getting this one. I’ll get the rest later. That’s just how I roll.”

You would roll kewl, good sir or madam. You. Would. Roll. Kewl.

Here’s more online verbage about the greatness of Winter Men. Read them all, then blog your own damn self about this mag.

It’s a blogosphere snowball, really, hopefully the kind with a happy ending, where we all look back a year from now, cradling trade paperbacks of Winter Men in our sweaty palms, and laugh that there was ever a doubt we’d see it collected.
