Sookie Stackhouse: No Romantic Engame?
Sookie Stackhouse: No Romantic Engame?
Sep 08I haven’t seen True Blood yet. I’m feeling an odd mix of really, really wanting to watch it and really, really wanting to avoid it for as long as I can. I’m a fan of Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse books, and thus am fretting about how it all turned out. But that’s not what I want to talk about, exactly. I just finished the latest Sookie tome, From Dead to Worse, and here’s something I’ve been chewing on: though Sookie herself has a very sweet romantical-type side, it doesn’t really seem like Harris has a pre-determined endgame couple in mind here. I think that’s kind of cool.
Now this is, of course, it’s own kind of trap. Sookie seems to keep meeting an endless array of supernatural suitors, and they are all MADLY IN LOVE WITH HER, and that can get kind of annoying. That said, I think Sookie’s general down to earthness keeps it from being completely annoying — she’s no Bella Swan, you know? And I like the feeling that there’s no one guy I’m supposed to be rooting for, that it could go a few different ways.
I’m getting an idea of where I, personally, would like it to go, though. I know there’s a pretty vocal fanbase for blabby, preeny vampire Eric (currently blood-bonded to Sookie), but he’s probably my least favorite. Weretiger Quinn seems like a non-starter. I still like Sookie’s first love, Bill (the love interest in True Blood), but Harris has taken the character down a path fans don’t seem too willing to forgive. No, I’m throwing my lot in with Sam, Sookie’s shifter boss who’s also one of her best friends. He’s been there the whole time, his connection to Sookie runs deep, and it seems like she might be starting to realize that he’s also ridiculously hot. He’s slowly become one of my favorite characters in the series, and I think if he and Sookie were to finally get it on…the payoff would be deliciously satisfying.
So, yeah. Put me down for Team Sam. Make me the t-shirt, register the fansite domain, start up the meaningless online petition. Team Sam FTW.
I have never read the books myself, so the Sookie-verse is all new to me. I really liked the premiere episode – esp. the title sequence (HBO makes good credits).
Anna Paquin was good, but I’m not sold on her character yet. I liked most of the supporting cast much better, and if it weren’t an HBO show that would worry me.
It’s certainly a different twist on the civil rights argument.
seems to me sookie has far too many available suitors, I just can’t keep up! But here’s a list, do you have more to add on? I’ve only read the first and fifth book (odd I know xD)
Bill
Eric
JB
Sam
Quinn
Calvin
and some guy who’s name starts with an A… who else? the list just goes on
I like Sam, but I think a romantic thing between Sookie and Sam would just blow the friendship. Sam is the boss/friend type. He’s the support her brother Jason SHOULD provide, but doesn’t. Eric is sexy, yes, but he’s not for Sookie. JB is with Tara, so that’s a no. Quinn is a non-event after Dead To Worse. Calvin is just too inbred/weird….I can’t see Sookie settling down in Hotshot. Ever. That brings us back to Bill. Yes, he’s done some pretty crappy things, but the reasons he did them (not the reasons he tells Sookie, but the REAL reasons he did them) are forgiveable. I think once the truth rolls out, Sookie will be able to forgive Bill. I just hope it isn’t too late. Sookie and Bill belong together, IMHO.
only on book 5, and only just started it, but I have to root for Eric. My name’s Eric, it’s a stupid reason, but reaon enough for me. Plus Vikings are just too great. I like Alcide Hervoux (sp?) too, although I’m not sure if he lives through the next couple books.
I really want her to choose bill in the end…despite the betrayal, I know he really loves her and I want them to be together when the series finally ends.
I have to say that I am hoping for a reconciliation between Sookie and Bill too. I am currently finishing up Book 6, so I admit I probably have a way to go before I understand the entire Bill/Sookie saga. It just seems like they have the sort of deep, abiding love that neither should let go of. Call me a die-hard romantic…. 🙂
I just finished the latest book. Have to say the list is pretty long for “Sookie’s Stand Up Man” search. I really liked Bill, but man I am done with him. Not gonna forgive him to be the one. He could be a friend, but that is as far as it would go… I like Sam, but it gets kinda too close to a brother. Not a good love affair. I think they missed the boat on that relationship. I like Eric, not sure if he has the stuff to go the distance. Really liked Quinn and I don’t think she gave him a fair shake. I do understand her wanting to be 1st in his life… Alcide was a good character, he just lost all his appeal after having that weird compulsion to pass the Were gene. I have the same problem with Calvin, but I never really liked him as much… I really hope it ends with happy ending for Sookie…. And soon…..
I have just started the 5th book and I can not stop reading!!! I have to say the only thing that keeps me reading is my hope for Sookie and Bill to be together in the end!!!
I will be SO disppointed once the series of books end if they are not together.
I am so addicted! I read all 8 books in 3 days. I think the door is closed for Bill. Sookie will always have feelings for him as her first but there was a double betrayal there. I am pulling for either Quinn or Eric. Before Quinn came along, I really thought that the love story would establish in Eric’s direction. It’s the quintessential story of a good girl who reforms the bad boy. I feel he cares for her so much, but he just can’t recognize the emotion and it scares him. In the end though, I hope it’ll be Sookie and Quinn. I think that Quinn still has a chance because their relationship was described on such a real level (i.e. they did things that everyday couples would do). I was heartbroken to find that she had broken it off, albeit for very valid reasons. I’m hoping something will turn that situation around because if Sookie never becomes a vampire then Quinn is the most ideal person for her to go off into the sunset with.
I am rooting for Bill all the way. Eric is manipulative and its cool that Bill is a southerner and from her neighborhood so they speak the “same language”. I think Bill does love her. even if he doesnt always get her the right present or anticipate her needs the same way that Eric does. Will any of these “supes” love her when she is middle aged? Bill is the only one that seems to have the depth of character to pull it off.
I just started reading All Together Dead. I know a lot of people really like Sookie and Bill but he really bores me. The honeymoon is over for me after the way she was manipulated. At least with Eric, she knows what to really expect. I really like the give and take pull between Sookie and Eric but in the end, I would really hope that she could end up with Quinn or Alcide. Preferably Quinn though he seems to get her in my opinion. At least with a were there is a possibility of a happily ever after with a home, maybe a kid and a chance to grow old with her love interest.
I want so badly for Sookie to forgive Bill . Remember he was forced to betray her. It seems that no matter who she is with, the mere thought of Bill makes her heart ache and yearn for him. Bill is painfully paying for his betrayal and wants her back. Eric was a hot fling to sooth her wounded heart and ego . Quinn, I just did not buy it. The heart wants what the heart wants and I say Sookie wants the tall, dark and dead one. 🙂
Sookie needs a strong man, because she’s a strong woman. Bill is too sappy. He’s just as devious as Eric, but Eric is upfront about who he is. Besides the love scenes between Sookie and Eric were just too hot for words. We need to see more of Sookie and Eric in the sack!
look, i have read the books so far. honestly i think sam and sookie should be together in the end. why? well lets see, he protects her…even when he overdoes it sometimes, he respects her and even tried to make friends with bill and etc. he can provide for her and not make her get into more of this messy stuff that she has been in. i know that maybe sam isnt like WOW hot…but he is…you just have to open your eyes and look at his personality too. sookie, shouldnt have a person that just looks hot and likes her…i mean look where that has got her. true love has to run deep and with sam it does. please let them end up together!
I understand that Sam thing, a good friend like that can work out really well, Bill so over, Eric I do like, Alcide I was rooting for but now it is Quinn all the way. He truely adored her. He was put in a tough situation. If she would truely look at herself, if she was in the same situation she would have chosen family, not to mention that Quinn risk his life and his sister to send her to warn Sookie.
As much as I love Eric, somehow want them to end up together. But like Sam said in the first book, Sookie has no future with a vampire. I am still mad at Sam for choosing to hang out with the Maenad, that was weird. I think for practical purposes it should be Quin. If not Quin, then Sam.
Even though I prefer Eric, it is just not realistic
GAH! I really really really want Sookie to be with either Eric Northman or Quinn! Why? Because if she were with Eric, she would most definitely be protected and provided for. Although they argue and such they have an undeniable bond. However, Quinn is just as tenacious when it comes to protecting Sookie, he’ll be able to provide for her as well. One thing Quinn has going for him is that 1.) He’s alive. 2.) He shows his feelings for Sookie. Eric, who has a position to protect doesnt seem to want to flaunt a relationship between himself and Sookie. But who know’s, we’ll see. I’m yet to read “From Dead To Worse”.
I guess that Eric would be the best for Sookie – i believe he really loves her, just is kind of keeping his emotions for himself. And he really has strong character – since Sookie is strong herself she can’t be with someone who would be afraid to raise his own opinion.
The fact that Eric is so confused about his feelings means probably that Sookie is his first real love. And i guess the physical attraction is not just lust.
I think that everyone is forgetting about the semi-relationship that Alcide and Sookie had. I know that it was never real, but it seemed that there was something real there. Of course part of me (a big part) wants to see Sookie with Eric, yummmmm, I think that a relationship with Alcide could actually happen. The timing was always wrong for them, but it could be right in the next few books. Alcide is strong, he is a leader, which is what Sookie needs, and it doesn’t hurt that he is a ‘supe’ which she is always going to be attracted to, revist their relationship and you will find something substantial. Alcide is not going to disappear anytime soon.
I love Quinn and Eric! Quinn is my first choice because he alive (ahem) and he’s so down to earth just like her. Eric (although I love him) is a little too uppity for Sookie in my opinion. However, I truly believe Eric loves her and I think they’d be happy, at least for a while. I haven’t really liked Bill ever since Eric started showing up more. I think he’s boring. I LOVE Sam, but I agree with what someone else said about him being more of the brother Sookie never had… that just happens to be hot and a great kisser. But if they ended up together that would be cool too. I lost all respect for Alcide after his treatment of Sookie when his dad died. Actually I lost respect for him while he was following around his bitch of an ex. Calvin is nice but not even on the same scale as Quinn and Eric and she could NEVER live in hotshot. Truly, I just hope that someday she finds someone that doesn’t break her heart.
I have read the first eight books, and I am completely rooting for Sookie and Quinn. I was so completely pissed with her for breaking it off with him in book 8. Yes he had lots of baggage, but hello Quinn was able to look past the blood bond between Sookie and Eric. Quinn is perfect for Sookie. 1. She can be her self around him. 2. He can protect Sookie. 3. He knows all about the Supes, so she wouldn’t have to hide anything. and most importantly 4. HE’S ALIVE!.
If Sookie ever ended up as a vamp she should be with Eric. I think Eric loves Sookie in his odd way, and Bill just can’t ever gain her trust back.
I SO AGREE WITH YOU.
I’ve only read the first novel so far, dead until dark (I’m planning on reading the rest), so I know that there is a lot that I don’t know. :P. There’s a lot I have to catch up on. But from google and sites like this I know that sookie hooks up with a whole wack of guys, including Eric??
Sam is my favorite guy for sookie so far.
I youtubed true blood (I’ve never watched it before but it looks like a great show, I want to start watching it!) And the Sam on the tv show is SO different from what I pictured him to be like. As in I like the book Sam better. Is that just me?
I’m starting to read book 8. I liked Bill until he started not being there for Sookie, then he cheated on her, plus he only went out with her because he was made…I don’t see how anyone could be team Bill. I am team Eric…there’s something about him, and at least with him he is honest. Sookie knows his nature and he doesn’t pretend to be something he’s not. I like Sam but there just isn’t that gotta have him spark.
i really want sookie to end up with bill as a vampire. that would be my perfect finalle. i dont think that eric the right one, he is much more brutal than bill. he like to drink blood from humans and not be social. i think that he should be alone. bill on the other side, is much more kind and i think he really loves her, but he got traped and made to hurt her. please harris make them be together again. i will be really dissapointed if she end up with eric or the stupid sam(he is an animal, come on) or the other comeandpass guys. SOOKIE SOULD END UP WITH BILL, IT IS JUST A CIRCLE, SHE SHOULD FINISH WITH THE SAME GUY SHE STARTED.
and please stop making her such a slut that goes with all the know guys.
i totally read all of them and i think she should end up with Eric because even though they exchange blood and they slept together. it just makes completely sense she should be with him. he been honest with her from the start when bill lied to her about Lorena. like Eric said in the books: there’s no reason for him to lied when he knows he had to be completely honest to him. bill is an asshole. he tricked to her into fall in love with her that he know he was going to get fucked over at the end. But Eric is just right for her. he is a handsome viking vampire for sure
What with the Charlaine Harris novel “Dead and Gone” out last month and the second series of True Blood on HBO out this month, life does not get much better for all the fans of Ms Harris!
I have spent my first week of my summer vacation (34 year old teacher, not student) consumed in reading these novels, and I also rented the first season of Trueblood . However, the further I get into the series, the more put off I become.
I’m not even bothering to get book 8 and 9 at this point. I don’t read these books to stay in the real world! I KNOW that you don’t usually end up with your first love- But (and this is a big BUT), Ms. Harris did too good of a job setting up the Bill and Sookie dynamic in the first two books, that I am not going to be happy seeing her with someone else. Is Bill the best man for her? I don’t know, maybe not. But he is the one she is supposed to be with.
Ms. Harris created such an interesting bond and connection between Sookie and Bill that can’t be explained away by his betrayal. I was always pissed that Buffy and Angel didn’t end up with each other, and am not sure I want to invest my time in these characters, if they aren’t going to be together in the end.
Maybe it’s not realistic to want Sookie and Bill together, but hey, I forget- we’re talking about a telepath and a VAMPIRE! Who cares if it is realistic (because this most definitely is NOT), as long as a great story is being told, with a GREAT ending.
I personally think that Sookie should end up with Quinn. From a broad perspective in comparison of all the males she’s been with, hes been the most down to earth. I think Bill was love, but the betrayal hit her to hard. And Eric may love her, but as seen he loves his power more. Alicide is probably on the same high as Calvin. Just wont happen. And Sam , again as stated is more of a family figure, not a lover. With that said, Quinn never changed his actions throughout the books, meaning he always stayed the same. He didn’t lie about anything. Sure he hid some things, but hey who doesn’t? He loves her, as stated by himself and his family, good looking as portrayed, and has an stable job. And FYI, kids would be possible.
Team Quinn Ftw.
Team Eric!
I completely disagree, I do think Harris has a particular end couple in mind and I think it will be with Eric. It’s not just because I want it to happen I have seriously thought this through. First of all Harris had Eric catch amnesia coming down Sookies road. After that Bill is always refeered to as Sookie’s ‘first love’, to me this holds great signifcance. A first love is someone that will always have your love, but someone you will never be with again. Then she completely cut Bill out of the running by discovering his betrayal.
The blood bond made between Eric and Sookie at the vampire conference is I think the main sign that Harris intends these two to be the final couple. Harris could easily have made the bond between Bill and Sookie. However she choose for it to be with Eric.
As for Quinn, I think he is gone and out. Once again Charlaine Harris has some fun with a new man for sookie however then she cuts him out with a betrayal of some type in order to make room for Eric.
As for Sam, well I have always seen him as the brotherly figure. I do not think they will ever end up together.
I would like to see her with Sam or Quinn so that Sookie can live the most normal life possible – family, kids, sunshine. But it will be Eric in the end. Eric has been around for all of the books, they started off rocky, and have only grown closer with each book. Eric, Bill & Sam are the only 3 that have been there from the beginning, which I think is important, cause this is her telling the story, and the only love line that continued to grow with each book is Eric’s. Bill’s chance ended with the betrayal, honesty is too important to Sookie. Sam, well, they never really started anything serious. But Eric’s heart lies with Sookie (although he fights his feelings), that is why he ended up at her house when he was cursed. He is always there to protect, or he sends his servants to do it (including Bill). I also think the real reason he chose to be loyal to the new king of Louisiana was so that he can continue to protect her. If he had died, who knows how the new vamps would have abused her power.
The only way it may not be Eric is if he gives his life saving her. Then I think she would end caring for her nephew Hunter, and possibly forming some sort of relationship with Hunter’s dad or Sam. Because she will have had enough of the “supes” if she loses Eric, and Sam more human to her than he is supe.
Quinn, all the way! He’s just too perfect. Vamps can age along Sookie, and she is very definetly against becoming on of the undead. Not to mention the reason she blew him off is total B.S. Who doesn’t want a family guy? I mean really, they may have been in a relationship, but it hadn’t been for long enough at all for him to chose her over his family. Do you really want a guy that is that wishy-washy? Of course not! I think if she let them get further that she would be number #1, but that takes time. After all, I’m pretty sure she would have put Jason before him.
I’m an Eric fan all the way! I was rooting a bit for Alcide but that doesn”t seem to be happening, at least where I am in the series. I’m on book 5 and seem to be glancing ahead to see where Sookie and Eric interact. So after book 3 and 4, 5 is going a bit slower. I’m not really into the Quinn character. I like Alcide way better than Quinn but for me it’s Sookie and Eric all the way.
I started out on Bill’s team, but he’s made so many blunders – BIG blunders – that I can’t imagine Sookie taking him back. He’s betrayed her on several levels: first by running off with Lorena (even though he couldn’t help himself), also by seducing her under Sophie’s orders, then there’s also his total lack of care – he NEVER noticed the serious money troubles Sookie was having. He never offered to help her in any way. Instead he lavished his care and his money on people he obviously disliked.
Eric, on the other hand, has PROTECTOR tatooed all over his body. He notices everything about Sookie and that is what gives him an edge. I’m not saying that the blood exchange hasn’t had an effect, but I think that things would have eventually progressed with Eric on their own.
Somehow, the qualities and characteristics that the vampires had before they were changed carry over into their ‘vampire-life’. Eric was obviously a serious, hard-working leader that put everyone’s safety and well-being in the forefront. In his human life he had to be very selfish because, without him, his family and clan would not have survived. Eric’s experience with the witch’s curse (forgetting months of his life with Sookie) and then at the very end of Dead and Gone, where Sookie relates how she called for him but he didn’t come and his reply, “Stop! You’re killing me!” tells alot about his real feelings for her. He had to ignore her calls to be somewhere else that would ultimately do more good for her than rushing to her side. That’s love!
Of course, when Book Ten comes out I may be proven completely wrong… but that’s the fun of it!
I’m on Definitely Dead, I think as a guy I probably have a different POV. Instead of picking a specific suitor, I’m going to list them from worst to best.
Calvin (just not Sookie’s type)
Sam (better friendship)
Bill (jerk)
Alcide (too much ex-drama)
Quinn (too new to enjoy like #1)
Eric (There is just something I love about this guy)
Bill is done. Toast. Over. Women can forgive many things, but ‘I slept with you, the virgin, because my queen made me’ is not one of them. I love the books and the HBO series.
Quinn is out because he can not put Sookie first. He has made his sister and mother his first priority, and that gets old really fast. I wouldn’t put up with it, either.
Charlaine Harris could dream up somebody totally new for Sookie. We’ll just have to wait and see. There may be a whole new type of critter in the next book…
I agree with jeffielou… I’m stopping this before I get in too deep if Sookie doesn’t end up with Bill. Triangles… quadrangles… love is spread too thin and who cares anymore.
I really would like Sookie to end up with Eric not because of the blood bond, not because of Bill, just because she is is first true love. He never got to really love anyone when he was a Viking.
Also when Bill stated that “Sookie was his” before they were even really an item when Erik first met her, it shows that Bill was just desperate to have Sookie for himself and I’m not so sure he was really that in love with her at the time. He lied and may have fallen in love later or what he thinks is love but I don’t believe he truely is right for her. Erik as a Viking is fierce, proud and strong behind every strong man is an even stronger woman that can just make him melt. I think Eric loves Sookie and Sookie loves Eric with all his flaws with or without the blood bond.
I am a big fan of both the books and the series even though I keep them separate. If she doesn’t end up with Eric in the book, I hope she does on the show! I will be disappointed if she takes Bill back, I’d rather her just be alone than with over-protective – should only be her friend Sam. Her grandfather seemed to trust Eric too and he showed restraint around a fairy, yes I think I like Eric for her hands down!
Though I still have a soft part for Bill, especially after reading Dead and Gone, I still like the romantic friction that exists between Sookie and Eric, makes Eric the winner of Sookie’s heart. Even Bill in one of the earlier books, understands why Eric and Sookie would be a better match. He said that “Eric has a zest for life” and Sookie does too. I also think that at the end of DAG, Niall means it’s Eric-that she should choose-but I am also afraid for Eric-seems there s a bad omen because Pam said ” as you live in Sookie” after Eric commented that Clancy, who got killed but gave blood to Bill before he died, lived in Bill. Sam is not right for her because he is too much a friend and brother type. Quinn, would choose his mother or sister if a show down came between them and Sookie-and Sookie knows it. I would forgive Bill all his indiscretions, but still would go for Eric.
I have a badd feeling to after I read pam’s words ..I hope Mrs.Harris won’t kill eric off the book..I love eric ,I think his feeling for sookie is very genuine, and he is sookie soulmate..bill was her first love, sam is her friend..I can’t wait for the next book..
I’m with you on Team Sam. I’m only half-way through the books (all caught up on the TV series) and pretty sure Harris *does* have an endgame – Sam all the way. She’s using clever misdirection to draw attention away from him so she can keep spinning out the story as long as she wants, but it’s been clear from the get-go that Sam has all the qualities and none of the drawbacks of her other suitors. Sookie has said she wants kids – so it won’t be a vamp. Sookie wants financial security – Alcide is hot, stable and well-connected but has a weak character – he’s out. I haven’t met Quinn yet, but the mere fact his other nature is a tiger rules him out. If she’s going to marry another Supe, which seems like a safe bet, what kind will she go for? Sam is smart, owns a business, is fiercely loyal and protective of Sookie but doesn’t smother her or try to possess her (since he learned his lesson in book 1). He’s super-hot and a great kisser (according to Sookie) and they have smoking chemistry. But the most important reason? He may not always choose to but he can close his mind to her like he’s slamming a steel door shut. The chance for privacy AND intimacy whenever either are called for. That’s what Sookie wants more than anything. It’s a done deal.
Eric’s definitely my favourite Sookie-loving-man, they work great together and he’s so funny that the parts of the books with Eric in them are twice as good as all the rest. And I love the way he let’s her stand up to him.
I think Sam’s too brotherly, Bill’s kind of a tool, she’s over Alcide and Quinn, and Calvin was never really on the table.
But Sookie’s got so many men in her life, often more than one at a time, so what would I really like to see the series ending with, is her being single. Standing on her own two feet instead of being continuously swept off them, and not needing any of the men to protect her.
I’m TEAM QUINN all the way….. I would just like to say, I am totally mad at Sookie! She gave up a guy who is PERFECT!!! and ALIVE! It was so TRUE when Quinn said “Why are you harder on me then everyone else?” WHY IS SHE!!! I think it is because Sookie is afraid of a REAL relationship! She knows that she can never have that with Bill, Eric, or even Alcide. Bill and Eric for the obvious reasons. And Alcide b/c well let’s face it… would you really want to be in a relationship with someone who just had relations with a random werewolfe lady??? talk about baby mama drama!!!! Everyone is voting more towards Eric but seriously??? She cant be with him during the day… He’s totally selfish… The only thing he has going for him is he’s hot and good in the sack… Common Ladies!!! you can’t tell me you would want that in a RELATIONSHIP??!?!?! Sorry I am just so upset… At first I was so excited about the relationship with Alcide… then CH made us not so crazy about him… and now she is doing the same with Quinn… I hate having these great characters and then oops we hate them b/c they have a little flaw… Which by the way if the worst flaw you could come up with for a character is that he needs to care for his mama and sister…. well that just says it all! Quinn is the BEST hands down. Okay I’m done!
ok. well charleaine harris has said that she will not, categorically, end up with a vampire, which is sooooo sad for eric, but i’m smug cus bill doesnt get her either! HA! CH said she would settle down and have a “normal life” so my money is on either alcide or Quinn, she didnt really do anything that alcide couldnt forgiver her for… much… and Quinn had such a RANDOM and unresolved ending that there has to be something more there….
so my money is on Quinn… BOO! i especially dislike his sister…
(hopeless) TEAM ERIC!!!
I absolutely LOVE Eric and Sookie. He is the only man, in the books, besides Sam who doesn’t treat Sookie like she is helpless. He does try to protect her because she is human and frail compared to the supes but he also gives her space and freedom. I believe his feelings for her are real but I think he will perish in the end. Sad to say but Pam’s comment in the last book left me with a bad feeling in regards to Eric. If she doesn’t end up with Eric I hope it is Sam. He always tries to protect her and does have strong feelings for Sookie. He would be good for her. All the Quinn lovers out there are you kidding me! He calls her “Babe” for christs sake that is sooo not even cute. It always seems kind of insulting when I read it. I am team ERIC all the way but if Eric dies GO SAM !!!!
Have read through book 8 and was hoping for a Bill / Sookie reconciliation of some kind too. However, I read that earlier post that C.H. has declared Sookie won’t end up with a vampire. Early on I suspected she would have to be turned to end up with Bill, but clearly her character wants to remain human.
I predict Sookie ends up with Sam. Their connection seems very permanent and C.H. just needs to add the powerful chemistry she writes for Sookie’s other lovers. BTW, after reading those scenes, I have wished for a vampire lover — who wouldn’t!
C.H…If you are reading this…please give us what we all want! Eric and Sookie together. Can’t she just get some fairy dust and some blood combination and become immortal? It would be great if Eric became a vampire King and Sookie could be his queen. They could rule “together and enjoy power together”. They would be a match and wouldn’t have to worry about growing apart like “vampire couples”…..Eric and Sookie are in love….PLEASE don’t seperate them
Team Eric alll the way! It’s just killing me!
Ok I have read all 8 books, waiting for Dead and Gone in the mail. Let’s weigh out the options:
1-Eric
2-Bill
3-Calvin
4-Alcide
5-Quinn
6-Sam
-Let’s start with Calvin, obviously if you have read the books you know that is not going to happen.
-Alcide was a good guy and had a lot of good qualities, but he was weak in a way. It was a major turn off how devoted he was to Debbie and to me it seems like way to much has happened between them to overcome. I did and do like him, but it’s not going to happen.
-Quinn, was just a detour. I feel like we never got to know him, his personality wasn’t so great that it stood out whatsoever. He was a nice man and cared for her deeply. But I really think he has baggage. If it came down to his crazy mother or Sookie, you can kiss Sookie goodbye. Not going to happen, I hope!
-Bill! I love Bill. And he was a good first love and I want her to forgive him and end up with him. But the other half of me doesn’t. He wasn’t very exciting or romantic or anything. I can’t explain it, but he was just sort of blah at times. I’m so half and half with him. But just because they did love each other once upon a time and that was Sookie’s first love, doesn’t mean they have to end up together. Not sure about him.
-Eric. I have reall grown to like Eric throughout the books. At first I wasn’t sold, but I think he has a lot more to show than what he allows. I think Sookie has opened up a lot of emotions and has brought out the nest in him. I would absolutely love for them to end up together. But how would that work especially since Charlaine said she wouldn’t turn Sookie into a vampire. If they married she would get older everyday and die and he would stay young forever. Unless there is a weird twist I’m stumped. I love them together and I wish Sookie would realize she loves him and it’s not the stupid blood bond. A girl can hope.
-Sam. Now Sam I love. And I wouldn’t be dissappointed if they ended up together only because he can give her a real life. Marriage, kids, death, etc…. I think he is a great great man that truly cares for Sookie. And I think Sookie could feel the same way. To be frank he seems to be the most logical realistic choice. But we’ll see.
I don’t ever want the series to end. I hope Charlaine writes until she dies! haha j/k. I also didn’t think all the men loving her and whatever was annoying. It is realistic given her age and that she is a pretty girl. I don’t care if she sleeps around either. She was a virgin until 25 give the poor girl a break. She’s got a lot of built up hormones!
Also wanted to start watching True Blood, but I’m not sure if I’ll like it. Any input? Thanks!
I am both a fan of the show, and the books. They are both very enjoyable in different ways, and one just adds to the other. If you’ve only read the books, I highly recommend trying to watch the show too. It adds a different dynamic that the books don’t have, as it can show what’s happening in the lives of other characters–not just Sookie. And don’t worry, unlike other series, it won’t ruin the books for you, it will make them better.
As for who Sookie ends up with, i’m very divided. But I am confident that Charlaine Harris will be sure it’s someone worthy of her. She has good enough morals and dignity to be able to realize who is the right guy for her. On the show however, I do hope it’s Bill. I like him way better there than in the books. I also really like Eric, who wouldn’t? He and Sookie have that complex relationship that makes for the strongest of bonds. I also agree with many that Sam would never work. I see him more as a brother than a partner to Sookie and the deal with the maenad put me off.
I know CH has said that Sookie will not end up with a vampire, but the series was originally about them! That’s where it all began and I think that’s where it should end as well.
ive read all the books and at first i loved the idea of sookie and eric but now I LOVE QUINN. quinns the best choice for her!! and i too was so angry when she broke up with him in book 8 and she was kinda bitchy about it lol but HE LOVES HER. i find quins character just way more interesting than i do eric or bills or sams cos now theyre kinda just getting old
Apparently sookie doesnt end up with a vampire. eliminating eric and bill as options. So its out of quinn sam alcide and calvin. obviously the only plausible options are Quinn and Sam, I LOVE QUINN AND SOOKIE SHOULD END UP WITH HIM. ive always liked him best but i have this really annoying gut feeling that CH is going to make her end up with sam. IF THIS HAPPENS I REFUSE TO WATCH THE SHOW OR READ THE BOOKS EVERY AGAIN. its just not right! they are friends and should stay that way. besides from a kiss here and there sams and sookies relationship just isnt romancy and has no chemistry. and after all this time with her other relationships, they would just go to waste if she were to end up with sam, i must say the actor ruined him for me but still QUINN MUST END UP WITH HER PLEASE
I love Quinn and sookie! If she doesnt end up with a vamp as you say she must end up with quinn (even though if it isnt true that she doesnt end up with a vamp i would still prefer quinn over anyone else even eric i must say)
QUINN FOR THE WIN
and p.s i hate sam also they should definately not end up together or ill just have no faith in CH anynore
TEAM QUINN!!!!
I really loathe the idea of sookie and sam.
i detest it.
THEY BETTER NOT END UP TOGETHER!
TEAM QUINN FOR THE WIN
Yeh, after reading all the posts I have to say as mutch as I think that Quinn is the best choice, Eric is the strongest link. If I had to bet money, it would be on Eric.
…I have a need for Alcide. And so should Sookie. GO TEAM ALCIDE!
I’m on the edge of Team Eric and Team Sam. I’m halfway through book 9 at the moment so I’m not quite up-to-date with the books, but, whilst I enjoy the banter and chemistry between Sookie and Eric, it only seems like he’s ever after one thing with her. It’s always about the sex with him and the love is just a cover for that. And though I love Sam, I see him as more of a friend for her, like Daniel and Betty in Ugly Betty lol.
I have read all the books so far and I am all for Eric. He has the best relationship with her, even before the blood bond. They complete each other on so many levels. I will be very disappointed if she don’t end up with Eric. I would like to see him turn her so they can be together always but thats just what I want. As far as the others, Bill betrayed her so I’m not a fan of him at the moment even though he seems to be there when she needs him. Sam is more like a brother I agree with that. Alcide just doesn’t seem like the right guy for her, he is a good friend she just happen to meet along the way. As far as Quinn, I didn’t like him from the begining. Something don’t seem right about him, I just can’t put my finger on it yet. If she ends up with Quinn in the end I will regret ever reading the books. Eric is who I think her heart belongs to.
I find CH has invested alot of time in developing Eric he is in all the books.I feel he has secured a very important spot. I for one don’t really take Chs words to be written in stone either since she is an author and has to throw people off her trail.Even if she says Sookie won’t end up with a vamp doesn’t mean it’s written in stone. As much as I love Eric and want it to be him I’m not sure. Yet my question is why develop him over time and invest in him as a constant if he isint gonna be the one for me the major Eruc time in the books gives me hope;-)
I’ve already read all the books. I love the Sookie/Eric relationship…. Come on!!, she really cares about him. When the explosion of the Pyramid of Geeza (book 7th) she runs back to Eric’s hotel room just to save his life. And Bill? She didn’t even remembered him…. hihihihi.. She was dating that time Quinn and she just give him a phone called and warn him about the danger…. I don’t think that was because the blood bond or connection with Eric.. She really loves him, but she is so afraid to recognize her true fellings. She also shared blood with Bill and that wasn’t that strong like it seems to be with Eric. I read that Charlaine Harris said that Sookie will not turn into a vampire, maybe because she’s planning a normal life for Sookie. On the other hand if she isn’t ending up with a vamp, well, I have to choose Sam or Quinn…
My ranking is:
1.- Eric
2.- Sam
3.- Quinn
4.- Bill
Goooooo Team Eric!!! Love u Eric…. Until you meet the sun!
okay think about this bill has always been waiting in the wings and everybody knows he loves her he may have cheated on her but he loves sookie and eric is only a good guy because his memory is gone, bill should end up with her because he is just and awesome person and he’s been there did that queen make him protect her or love her or propose to her no so you guys who all like eric and sam and all the others who else is there no matter who she’s with
I loved Quinn and I was very angry with Sookie for dismissing him so easily. If she isn’t going to be with Bill, Quinn would be my choice. I love the sexual interludes with Eric but I don’t want them together as a couple. They don’t have anything eles in common. Bill loves her. In spite of her finding out about the power of the vampires “maker” she still can’t bring herself to forgive him. She has become such a hypocrite. I am only continuing with the series in hopes that the will reunite. However, I just read “One Word Answer” where Sookie states Bill is not her soulmate, just her friend. Ms. Harris is all over the place with Sookie’s feeling toward Bill. In Dead and Gone, she says she loves him again. Again after reading the preview chapter of Dead in the Family, she doesn’t even mention Bill. I hope I don’t get disappointed.
Team Quinn, I watched season 2 of true blood because someone said to then i saw season 1 liked her and bill but then i saw that there might be some serious lust between her and eric, there was definitely some sexual tension from the getgo. anyway i just read all the books and have to say out of all the men i have 2 that i really like one was just a fantasy. I LOVED Quinn and hate how much of a bitch she was to him and he risked his sisters life to warn her, talk about ungreatful and yeah she was harder on him than she was to anyone else. bitch doesnt deserve quinn. ok he tried to save his mom but he definately tried to save sookie by sending his sister, i dont understand why she doesnt realize how much of a sacrifice that was, since family is so important to him. dont you think she’d see that clearly she is important too by sending his sister? i wanted to someone to slap some sense into sookie for being so blind. and the whole eric thing, that man is sooo controlling, manipulative and seems like he only wants her because she is different and also for sex. i hate that we didnt get to see much of sookie and quinn and i felt that CH just left him high and dry, i love that he came back despite eric’s banishment or whatever. i didnt know about CH saying sookie wont end up with a vamp but im actually really glad to find that out. as for sam, he is a good boss and a great friend but as for a real relationship i dont think it will work because he seems to be more a brotherly role than anything, yeah they kissed a few times but i think sookie used him as a rebound or for when she was feeling lonely or horny.
Team QUINN
Team Quinn, I forgot to mention the second guy i liked for sookie that was more of a fantasy. Am I the only person wishing Claude wasnt gay and wasnt a jerk and most importantly wasnt related to sookie? the way they described him made me kinda pissed that there wasnt anything going on there. anyway but alas it was just a fantasy.. the best choice is ans will always be Quinn.
is it possible for sookies friend Amelia and her mentor both witches to turn eric into human again. In that way eric dies as a vampire and still lives on sookie like pam says but born agin as human. If thats possible sookies gets to have a normal life and eric gets to keep his promise ie. giving uphis club and looking after her like he said.
Niall probably meant Bill in the end of Dead and Gone. i mean, bill hasn’t really been that good to sookie with lies and betrayal but he has at times reminded sookie he will die fighting for her.
i really hope its eric sookie ends up with. they both have such chemistry. they both in denial especially sookie. eric is just scared that after all he does for her, she will leave him for bill or Quinn. Sookie does tell Eric that she regret letting Quinn go.
oh, such heartache. we can only dream.
I think Eric will take himself out of Sookies life, realizing finally how much he loves her and that he cant give her the things she wants. She doesnt want money or power, she wants a family, to eat breakfast with her husband and raise kids. If she wanted something more complex she could have left the bar game a long time ago. His greatest sacrifice in loving her will be leaving her and probably in a way that makes her hate him so she can turn to Sam. He would be the only he would trust Sookie with. The only real question I have up to this point is why she can read Eric’s mind sometimes, if she cant read vampire minds because they are dead?
Heh I just bought the 1st book recently and yeah I did watched a bit of the series on tv[and dunno what the hell was going on] but I’m hoping to read all of the books because the storyline is just so good and I just can’t stop myself reading the book[reading in secrecy to avoid my dad screaming at me for reading it instead of reading my textbooks]. It is kinda sad that Bill betrayed Sookie[read on the net] and bla bla bla but I still can’t stop imaging Bill & Sookie together with some kewl Japanese rock music in the background. lol
67th!
Pay attention to Hunter and his HUMAN Father….
I had to google who Hunter was because it’s been awhile, but I’m very excited about those characters and how they’ll fit into the remaining Dead mythology. However, I don’t think Hunter’s dad has ashot at Sookie in terms of romantic endgame.
Oh, and, yes: SIXTY-NINETH.
Has anyone else read chapter one of Dead in the Family? I myself was thoroughly depressed by what the state Sookie is in in even those few pages. i don’t want to give anything away, but I have a feeling that her and eric aren’t going to work out as much as I hoped.
i must say quinn. yummy, i was disapointed in ch she started writing like she didnt know where to take it and started making mistakes, sookie and her stupid dead blood thing.the vamps all have to bend over to their superiors with their stupid politics.so much for bill mainstreaming. ch made sookie real shallow by dumping quinn.the vamps are posers.quinn should kidnap sook and take her to the jungle, get her dumb ass away from dead guys. know what im saying. i dont know if i can continue the series. i pictured billy corgan as quinn. but bc needs to go to gym and get some vitamin d for that role.
no.
oh ok. i guess we all got our own pictures in our heads as we read along.i thought since he did that vampire thing in the ninetees and being tall and shiney head. i dont think hbo wil do a season four so we wont see any quinn. but how about some suggestions for player of the tiger quinn then, anyone
i have changed my mind. i think sookie should get that witch to turn her into a dairy cow, then the vamps can come for visits, sucky sucky, and she can provide nice creamy milk for the collie and all the were community inc the neighbourhood cats and that will keep bubba happy too. she can eat grans grass and keep the roses down and provide enough manure for all of bon temps.. what a load of bull the books became. give me an anne rice novel quick..
Quinn!! I just finished book 8, 2 more to go. I really think Quinn is the all around right choice for Sookie…and im sad how book 8 turned out. John Quinn is the perfect man for Sookie, hes alive, he has never been the one to initate her danger. He is always there to try to rescue her. She wants kids, and he could give that to her. He has been more willing a suitor for her than any of the other men in the series.
Eric would be my next choice, but i rather see her turn up with Quinn. Purly because Eric first took interest in her because of her ‘gift’, not for who she was. But Quinn was right there from the start purly interested in her, not using her for her gift like all the others.’
‘And after all the crap Bill has put her through, Sookie needs to just forget him.
Alcide, whatever, he has his pack to run and he has to go make pure were babies, so leave sookie outa that mess.
and Calvin norris is just to old and set in his ways for her.
TEAM QUINN!!! =)
As I finished the books (1st-10th), I discovered that Eric is THE ONE.
Honestly, Quinn is not the man for Sookie, there is something that makes him a good memory for Sookie, but he is not her ideal; and somehow she knows that (I know she is made of ink, but reading her “thoughts” inspired me to write this).
Besides, is quite annoying the “babe” stuff. But then again, he is just a tiger: a wild and sexy adventure, not her true love.
So yes, TEAM ERIC!
Lets face it, the viking is more than a thousand years old, and the books show us that Sookie was his truly first something (I call it love, but you can disagree with me), and Quinn is just a man who found her special in both ways: mentally and phisically; like many others. Bo-ring!
Sookie needs the special spark that wpuld make her happy, and I believe Eric is the one who has it.
What is up with the sucky sucky cow comment up above??? I’m just about to start Book 10 (summer vacation reading!) and going into the book I’m Team Eric (even if he spells his name wrong). I’ll report back if Book 10 changes my mind. But seriously, the cow comment was weird.
i think in the cow comment she was pointing out how outlandish the books have become, which is true. Sookie has changed so much from how she was in the beginning that she is basically the same character. The plots are becoming more and more ridiculous with the constant need to put in a new species of creatures. What happened to regular humans being the bad guys for once? Did everyone forget about the first book where the killer was actually human? Once the whole fairy thing happened the books for too bizarre for me. I think Harris has really tried to milk this series as much as possible and has dug herself deep into a hole.
Sam’s too solidly in the friend category at this point.
Alcide’s always gonna be damaged goods because he’ll never really get over Debbie (who’s a much more interesting character in the books than she is in the series, though I keep waiting for her to throw Sookie into the trunk of her car)
Bill’s a big fat liar, despite real feelings he has for Sook.
Quinn is a really good guy, and worth some attention, but he hasn’t been there for Sookie for a while.
Eric is hot and usually attentive and he has a soft side.
Team Eric for the win.
I am on TEAM ERIC!!!! How could you not be!!! I started reading the books a few months ago. I am on book 9 and I would be soooooooo disappointed if she does not end up with him some way or another. Since book 1 Eric has been in her life some how or another and i do believe he loves her. Definitely not Sam b/c he is too much of a friend. Bill just creeps me out, and Quinn was a great memory but Eric is always there for her!!!!! I hope that somehow, someway Eric will be the one she chooses. To me it seems that this is how it is suppose to happen and I think a lot of people would be disappointed if it ended another way!!!!
I’m thinking that at the end of the day Sookie will be with Sam. Eric has tragic death written all over him, Bill imo is too weak not powers wise but in terms of character, Quinn is too much baggage.
Sookie wants someone who puts her first Sam does that. He wants a life outside of the supes politics but involves himself for Sookie.
I’m thinking that Eric will be the one Sookie choses but Eric will die tragically in the second to last or third to last book. Eric is too ingrained in the vampire world and while Sookie may want to be with him on many levels she won’t be able to.
After Eric’s death I think Bill will attempt to step up but Sookie will lean on Sam. Eventually Sookie will realize that the love that she wants along with the life she wants is with Sam.
I think that she should kill Sookie’s character off as the men that love her are too good for her.
